![]() | I came to the position of Secretary/Manager, WA Police Legacy in May 2002. I retired after 33 years as a member of the Western Australia Police having accumulated a wide experience in welfare, youth crime and substance abuse issues and community health. As a Churchill Fellow I was afforded the special experience of travelling and working with Police Officers in the United States of America, England and Canada. As a young teenager I unfortunately lost my father to a traffic crash but as a consequence received the benefits of Legacy Australia, the military counterpart of Police Legacy, and gained a good knowledge of the needs of families in circumstances affected by tragedy. I was the inaugural Welfare Officer for the Western Australia Police in 1989 and have served in all regions of the State as a uniformed general Police Officer. During one such stint in a country area I was the Chair of the Harvey District Hospital Board, Deputy Chair of the Harvey /Yarloop District Health Service and member of the Country Hospital Boards Council of Western Australia Whilst serving in the City of Perth as Officer in Charge of the Perth City Watch I oversaw the design and implementation of the Noongar Patrol Scheme and Mission Australia “On Track” programs in the city. This experience added to my role as Welfare Officer for the WA Police Union augered well for an integrated Welfare service for the serving officers and their families. |
