Thirty-one children aged from not quite 6 to 16 years, accompanied
by nine supervisors attended Camp Quaranup, Albany for the
2009 mid winter camp.
Despite some inclement weather everyone had the most wonderful
time. At night waiting for ghosts to arrive (staying at the
historical old quarantine hospital, some gravesite still around),
touring Whale world, Denmark tree top walk, visiting the toffee
factory and eating yummy ice creams, seeing the life of a
criminal at the Albany convict jail, visiting Princess Royal
Fort clambering all over gun turrets, shooting remarkably
good accuracy in archery, loving air rifle shooting, enjoying
the animals at Pentland Alpaca Stud farm, having water slide
fun at the Indoor aquatic centre, catching fish and squid
with Father Michael, ten pin bowling, bush walking and a visit
to Albany Police Station.
Highlight of the camp was being on GWN as a result of being
filmed and interviewed at the Police Station, using the theme
“Children BBQ lunch with fellow officers of their dads”.
Every child had a ride in a police car complete with lights
and sirens.
These children have learnt at a very early age life was
never meant to be easy. That the people they love will not
always be there, so they send in guardian angels from Legacy
to make sure their children are out of harms way and guided
through to adulthood.
